Product Condition Policy
This Product Condition Policy explains how MDV Watches LLC represents the condition of new, pre-owned and vintage products, how customers should interpret condition information, and the responsibilities of customers when reviewing a product before purchase.
Clear expectations are essential when buying pre-owned luxury.
MDV Watches LLC buys, sells and sources luxury and vintage timepieces. Because many products have been previously owned, their physical and cosmetic condition can vary considerably.
This policy is intended to help customers understand how condition information should be interpreted and what should reasonably be expected when purchasing a pre-owned or vintage product.
The individual product comes first.
General condition terminology is helpful, but the individual product description, photographs and specific disclosures should always take priority when evaluating a particular item.
Different products require different condition expectations.
The age, ownership history and nature of a product can materially affect what should reasonably be expected from its condition.
Newer Condition
Where a product is specifically represented as new or unworn, customers should refer to the individual listing for the exact condition, packaging and included accessories.
Previously Owned
Pre-owned products may display scratches, handling marks, polishing, bracelet wear or other evidence consistent with previous ownership.
Age & Character
Vintage pieces may display substantial age-related characteristics, including patina, fading, wear, servicing, restoration or replacement components.
Condition descriptions are intended to provide a practical overall assessment.
MDV Watches aims to describe products accurately and in good faith based on information reasonably available at the time of listing.
A condition description is not intended to catalog every microscopic scratch, mark, surface variation or characteristic visible only under magnification.
Condition may involve multiple components.
Case
Scratches, dents, polishing, surface finishing, lug shape and edge definition may be relevant.
Dial & Hands
Aging, patina, fading, spotting, luminous material and known replacement or restoration may be relevant.
Bezel
Scratches, fading, marks, wear, replacement inserts or other age-related characteristics may be present.
Crystal
Crystals can show scratches, marks or evidence of replacement depending on age and prior servicing.
Bracelet & Clasp
Wear, scratches, stretch, polishing, link count and replacement components may affect overall condition.
Accessories
Boxes, papers, cards, tags, manuals and other accessories may themselves show wear or aging.
Look closely before purchasing.
Customers should review all available photographs because visible condition characteristics may form an important part of the product's overall representation.
Photographs and descriptions should be considered together.
Photography is used to help customers evaluate appearance and condition. However, lighting, screen settings, viewing angle and image compression can affect how color, reflections, scratches and surface details appear on different devices.
If a visible characteristic is unclear or particularly important to your purchase, request clarification before placing the order.
Ordinary signs of previous ownership are not automatically defects.
Unless a product is expressly represented otherwise, a pre-owned or vintage item may display characteristics associated with previous use or age.
Light or visible marks from previous handling and wear.
Patina, fading and other changes associated with time.
Scratching, movement between links or clasp wear.
Possible refinishing from previous ownership or service.
Complete polishing history may not always be known.
Many pre-owned watches have been polished or refinished during their lifetime. The degree and history of polishing may not always be documented.
Where MDV Watches has relevant information about polishing or refinishing, that information may be included in the product description or discussed with the customer.
Collectors seeking unpolished pieces
If an unpolished, minimally polished or sharply defined case is essential to your purchase, please ask specifically before ordering rather than assuming polishing history from photographs alone.
Vintage watches require age-appropriate expectations.
Vintage products can display characteristics that would not normally be expected from a modern or newly manufactured item.
Patina
Natural aging may develop on dials, hands, luminous material and other components.
Fading
Bezel inserts, dials and other materials can change color through age and exposure.
Historical Service
Older watches may have been repaired or serviced without complete surviving records.
Authenticity ≠ Condition
A genuine watch can be heavily worn, polished, restored or fitted with service components. Its condition does not by itself determine whether the underlying product is authentic.
Condition should not be confused with authenticity or originality.
A product's physical condition, authenticity and component originality are separate considerations.
Customers interested in original components, service replacements or aftermarket modifications should also review our Product Authenticity Policy.
Product Authenticity Policy →Original depth ratings should not automatically be assumed to remain current.
The seals, gaskets, crowns, crystals and cases of watches can change with age, wear and servicing. This is particularly important for vintage watches.
Cosmetic condition and mechanical performance are different considerations.
A watch may present attractively while requiring future routine servicing, just as a mechanically sound watch may display substantial cosmetic wear.
Mechanical watches are precision devices and performance can be affected by age, movement condition, magnetism, impact, service history and normal use. Any applicable warranty coverage should be reviewed separately.
Warranty Policy →Included accessories will vary by product.
A watch may be offered alone or with items such as a box, warranty card, papers, manuals, tags, spare links, service documentation or other accessories.
Only items specifically stated or clearly represented as included should be assumed to form part of the sale.
Do not automatically assume:
- Original box is included
- Original warranty papers are included
- All original bracelet links are included
- Accessories are from the original sale
- Complete service history is available
Customers should review the product carefully before purchasing.
Before completing a transaction, customers should review the available condition information and contact MDV Watches where clarification is needed.

Examine all available product photographs.
Consider
Consider age, history and normal pre-owned wear.
Ask
Ask about anything important before ordering.
Do not rely on assumptions for characteristics essential to your purchase.
If you require a particular characteristic — such as an unpolished case, specific dial condition, a particular bracelet configuration, full links, original accessories, a particular type of patina or a known service history — contact MDV Watches before purchasing.
The absence of a statement about a specific characteristic should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation that the product meets a customer's individual collecting requirement.
Contact us promptly if something appears materially different.
If you believe the condition of a delivered product materially differs from how it was represented, contact MDV Watches with your order number, a description of the concern and supporting photographs where appropriate.
The applicable return or warranty process will depend on the circumstances and the relevant policy terms.
Before modifying the watch
Where a condition concern may result in a return or warranty request, contact MDV Watches before arranging:
- Polishing
- Repair
- Movement service
- Component replacement
- Permanent alteration
- Other material third-party work
Return eligibility is governed by the Refund & Returns Policy.
This Product Condition Policy explains how condition is represented. It does not replace or independently create a right of return.
Where a customer wishes to return a product, the requirements, eligibility, timing and procedures described in the applicable Refund & Returns Policy should be followed.
