Product Authenticity Policy
Authenticity is central to the trust required when purchasing luxury and vintage watches. This policy explains how MDV Watches LLC approaches authenticity, originality, replacement components, aftermarket parts, disclosures and product review.
We do not knowingly offer counterfeit products.
MDV Watches intends to represent the products it offers accurately and in good faith. We do not knowingly offer counterfeit watches or knowingly misrepresent a replica product as genuine.
Luxury and vintage watches can, however, have complex histories. A genuine watch may have been serviced, polished, repaired, restored or fitted with replacement components during its lifetime.
For this reason, authenticity should not automatically be interpreted as meaning that every component present on a pre-owned or vintage watch is necessarily the exact component fitted when the watch first left the manufacturer.
Authenticity is not the same as originality.
A genuine luxury watch may contain legitimate service replacements, period-correct components or disclosed aftermarket modifications. Customers should therefore review the individual listing, photographs and available disclosures before purchasing.
Four concepts every collector should understand.
The terms authentic, original, service replacement and aftermarket describe different aspects of a watch.
Genuine Product
A watch represented as authentic is intended to be a genuine product of the identified brand rather than a counterfeit or replica.
Original Components
Originality generally concerns whether particular components are believed to remain from the watch's original production or early configuration.
Service Replacement
A service component is a part fitted during maintenance or repair rather than necessarily being the exact component originally installed.
Non-Manufacturer Component
Aftermarket generally refers to a component produced outside the original manufacturer's supply chain or fitted as a later modification.
Decades of ownership can change a watch.
A vintage watch may have passed through several owners, watchmakers, services and restorations. Its current configuration can therefore reflect both its manufacturing history and what happened to it afterwards.
Authenticating vintage watches requires context.
Collectors often care not only about whether a watch is genuine, but also about matters such as dial type, hands, bezel, bracelet, case condition, movement, reference details, age-related patina and service history.
Not every historical detail can always be established with absolute certainty, particularly where manufacturer records or complete service documentation are unavailable.
Customers with specific collecting requirements should therefore ask questions before purchasing.
What may be considered when reviewing a watch.
The review appropriate for a product can vary according to brand, age, reference, condition, documentation and available information.
Reference & Configuration
Reference information, configuration and identifiable model characteristics may be considered.
Case & Components
The case, dial, hands, bezel, bracelet and other visible components may be reviewed for consistency.
Movement
Where appropriate and reasonably possible, movement-related information may form part of the product assessment.
Documentation
Available warranty papers, service documents, receipts or other records may provide additional context.
Condition
Condition, wear, polishing, restoration and age-related characteristics may be relevant to the overall assessment.
Available History
Known ownership, service or transaction history may be considered where reliable information is available.
Accessories do not determine authenticity by themselves.
Original boxes, warranty papers, manuals, tags, receipts and service documents can add valuable context to a watch, but their presence alone does not prove authenticity.
Likewise, the absence of original accessories does not automatically mean that a watch is not genuine. Many vintage and pre-owned watches have been separated from their original packaging or documentation over time.
Service parts can be genuine without being original to the watch.
Manufacturers and watchmakers may replace worn components during service. A replacement crown, crystal, bezel insert, dial, hands, bracelet component or movement part may therefore be genuine while not being the same part installed at initial production.
For collectors seeking highly original vintage examples, these distinctions can materially affect desirability and value.
Ask before purchasing if originality is important to you.

- Hands
- Bezel or insert
- Bracelet or clasp
- Crystal

- Known service replacements
Modification does not automatically mean counterfeit.
A genuine watch can sometimes include a later aftermarket component. The relevant issue is whether the product and known modification are represented accurately.
Known material aftermarket modifications should be disclosed.
Examples can include aftermarket dials, bezels, diamond settings, bracelets, straps or other customized components.
Where MDV Watches is aware of a material aftermarket modification, the product should be described in a manner intended to communicate that information to the customer.
A genuine watch can still show significant wear.
Authenticity and condition are separate issues. A genuine vintage watch may show scratches, fading, patina, bracelet stretch, polishing, case wear, dial aging or other characteristics associated with age and use.
Customers should therefore review both the authenticity information and the condition information relevant to the individual piece.
Read the listing and examine the photographs together.
Product descriptions and photographs should be considered together when evaluating a pre-owned or vintage watch. Photographs can show details that may not be practical to describe individually in written text.

Review the complete product description, not only the title.
Inspect
Review available photographs for condition, configuration and included items.
Ask
Contact MDV Watches before purchase if a particular detail is important to you.
Tell us what matters to your collection.
Different buyers value different characteristics. One collector may want an untouched vintage example, while another may prioritize mechanical condition, appearance or everyday wearability.
Originality Focus
Ask specifically about original or believed-original components and any known replacements.
Condition Focus
Ask about polishing, wear, patina, scratches, bracelet condition and other visible characteristics.
Completeness Focus
Ask what box, papers, tags, links, receipts or service documents are included.
Provide as much history as you reasonably can.
When offering a watch to MDV Watches, accurate information helps with evaluation. Customers should disclose known modifications, service history, replacement parts and other relevant details.
Clear photographs and available supporting documentation can also help with initial review.

Common questions from buyers and collectors.
Does authentic mean every component is original?
No. A genuine watch may contain service replacement components or later parts. Authenticity and complete originality are not the same thing.
Can a genuine watch have an aftermarket component?
Yes. A genuine watch may later have been modified with an aftermarket component. Known material modifications should be considered separately from whether the underlying watch is genuine.
Do box and papers prove authenticity?
Not by themselves. Documentation can provide useful context, but it should not be treated as the sole basis for determining authenticity.
Are vintage watches always completely original?
No. Vintage watches may have been serviced, restored or repaired over many years. Their current configuration can therefore differ from their original production configuration.
What should I do if originality is important to me?
Contact MDV Watches before purchasing and identify the specific details that matter to you so they can be discussed before the transaction.
What if I have an authenticity concern after delivery?
Contact MDV Watches promptly with your order details and a clear explanation of the concern. Do not arrange material third-party work before contacting us if the issue may affect a return or warranty review.
If a detail matters, ask before completing the transaction.
Collectors can have highly specific standards relating to originality, period correctness, service history, polishing, patina, components and accessories.
Where a particular characteristic is essential to your purchasing decision, contact MDV Watches before placing the order rather than assuming information that is not expressly stated.
